Ah, Swedish spring! The blissful time of year when we say goodbye to the long, dark, and bitterly cold winter, and eagerly anticipate the arrival of sunshine, flowers, and warm breezes. Except\u2026wait a minute, is that snow outside?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yes folks, it’s that time of the year when we wake up to a winter wonderland in the middle of freaking March! Even though everyone knows that this is a completely normal occurrence in Sweden, it doesn’t stop us from feeling like we’ve been personally violated by the weather Gods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I mean, come on! We’ve put up with months of freezing temperatures, slippery sidewalks, and ungodly amounts of darkness. We’ve dutifully waited for the time when we can finally put away our winter jackets and start planning picnics and barbecues. And then, just when we thought it was safe to go outside without a heavy coat, BOOM! Snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So, what’s a Swede to do when faced with this unexpected assault on our delicate sensibilities? Well, for starters, we can complain. A lot. We can post angry messages on social media, write scathing blog posts, and curse the weather in all its manifestations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But, let’s be honest here: as much as we may feel violated by this snow, we still secretly enjoy it. We love the way it looks, the way it feels, and the way it reminds us that we’re living in a place with actual seasons (unlike those poor souls in California or Florida). So, yeah, maybe we’ll grumble and groan for a little while longer, but at the end of the day, we’ll take that snow any way we can get it. Bring on the slushy sidewalks and the dirty snowbanks!
