It’s a perfectly good question that has been asked for centuries. Is it because of the resurrection of Jesus? Is it because of the Easter Bunny? Or is it because we get a few days off work to stuff our faces with chocolate? I don’t know about you, but I’m going to go with the latter.

Here in Sweden, Easter is celebrated a little differently than in other parts of the world. Instead of the typical Easter egg hunts and chocolate bunnies, Sweden goes all out with their decorations. You’ll see colourful feathers in branches indoors, little doll-like characters called “Easter Witches,” and tons of other unique touches. It’s a beautiful celebration that truly feels like a breath of fresh spring air.

But let’s get back to those colourful feathers. Why are they there? Well, legend has it that they’re a symbol of the Easter Witches’ brooms. Those crafty witches would fly around on their brooms and cause all sorts of mischief. But if you had colourful feathers in your home, it would ward off any bad luck caused by these witches. Plus, they’re just darn cute.

So, whether you celebrate Easter for religious reasons or just love an excuse to eat chocolate, remember to add some of those colourful feathers to your home decor. Who knows, maybe you’ll ward off some witches while you’re at it…and then I have nowhere to go.

Take in that family is all we have in the end. Eat, laugh, (pray if you want to) and be present in the moment. Your mobile phone can wait. I promise.

I have stuff to pack, lunch to eat and coffee to heave down.
Until later darlings, until later.
