My manager at an old workplace in Denmark has steadily held the position as “best ever manager” during my career.
He now has to bow down to a new champion, my current manager.

What makes them similar is that they are both ex-army officers with the rank to prove excellence within their respective fields..by far.
They are both not–too-bad-to-rest-ones-eyes-on and they are both extremely well suited as managers in the civilian sector as well.

None of the above are obvious given character traits for army officers so kudos to both of them just for that.

I’m sure my current manager pisses off people every now and then.
He really doesn’t beat around the bush or wait for things to solve themselves.
He´s a doer. Without question.
He has taken all the silly managers classes, taken the time to learn how the minds of people in a civilian workplace functions.
And then he acts.

With thought, goal and patience.
No screaming, no yelling, no bullying.
Just pure, clear and rather softly padded authority.

I had my annual salary chat today and I did indeed receive a salary increase.
Believe it or not!
Not at all a mind boggling sum, but still.
No..the money wasn’t the good thing about the chat.
It was that this guy, manager over 250 people, has taken the time to really assess my performance and make suggestions on improvement as well as praise for what I have done really well.
This man doesn´t miss a heartbeat.

All in all: All should have the luxury, at one point or another in their life, to experience management at this level of sophistication.

I have a family to enjoy, glögg to drink and a Christmascards to draw with WeeMan.
Until later.
